Spider-Man vs. Captain America
Steven Rogers, a fellow hero. In this site's ratings, the classic Peter Parker Spider-Man wins 55% of their one-on-one fights, so it is close to a coin flip.
The verdict: A coin flip, with Spider-Man by a hair
Fight rules: both fighters at their peak, no preparation, no allies, only their own powers and personal gear. A win is a knockout, a restraint they can't escape, or a forced surrender. The percentages are fan estimates, not official information.
Spider-Man's edge
Many times stronger and far faster. Spider-sense reads every shield ricochet, and one good web line can rip the shield away and leave Cap with his fists.
Captain America's edge
Super-soldier stamina, the sharpest tactical mind in the Avengers, mastery of boxing, judo and his own shield style, and a near-indestructible vibranium-alloy shield that blocks anything and comes back to his hand.

Who is Captain America?
Steve Rogers was a frail art student from New York's Lower East Side who volunteered for Project Rebirth in 1941 and became the only successful subject of Dr. Abraham Erskine's super-soldier serum. As Captain America, he fought through World War II beside Bucky Barnes and the Invaders until a 1945 explosion sent him into the North Atlantic, where he lay frozen for decades. The Avengers found and revived him in Avengers #4 (1964), and he has led the team for most of its history. His shield, his tactical genius and his refusal to bend his principles have made him the moral center of the Marvel Universe.
