Movie guide

Every Spider-Man movie in order, and the villains in each

Three Peter Parkers, two animated Spider-Verses and one record-breaking 2026 sequel. Here is every Spider-Man film in the order it came out, who directed it, how it did, and which of his villains show up.

How to use this guide

Spider-Man's film rights have been held by Sony since the late 1990s, which is why his movies come in separate series: Sam Raimi's trilogy, Marc Webb's two Amazing Spider-Man films, the Tom Holland films made with Marvel Studios, and Sony's animated Spider-Verse. Worldwide grosses below are rounded and come from Box Office Mojo and The Numbers; they can change slightly with re-releases. Plot details for the newest film are marked as spoilers.

Every Spider-Man on this list has his own page with powers and odds against all 49 opponents on the site, linked by name.

The Sam Raimi trilogy (2002 to 2007)

  1. Spider-Man (2002)

Directed by Sam Raimi · Tobey Maguire · about $822 million worldwide

The film that proved Spider-Man could carry a blockbuster, with Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin. It popularized the idea that the great-power-and-responsibility lesson came from Uncle Ben, and it gave Peter organic webs. See Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.

  2. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

    Raimi · Maguire · about $789 million

Still the most frequently named best Spider-Man film. Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus is a tragic scientist rather than a monster, and the train fight is one of the best action scenes in the genre.

  3. Spider-Man 3 (2007)

    Raimi · Maguire · about $891 million

The black suit, Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace) and Harry Osborn's New Goblin all at once. A box-office hit, but the most divisive of the three.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012 and 2014)

  1. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Directed by Marc Webb · Andrew Garfield · about $758 million

A reboot with mechanical web-shooters, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as the Lizard. See Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man.

  2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

    Webb · Garfield · about $709 million

Jamie Foxx's Electro, Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn as the Green Goblin, and Paul Giamatti as the Rhino. It was meant to launch a Sinister Six film that never happened, and its ending echoes The Night Gwen Stacy Died.

Tom Holland and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (2016 onward)

  1. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo · Spider-Man's MCU debut

Not a Spider-Man film, but his first appearance in the shared universe: Tom Holland's Peter takes on Captain America at the airport.

  2. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Directed by Jon Watts · Tom Holland · about $880 million

A high-school Peter, Michael Keaton's Vulture as a blue-collar arms dealer, two Shockers and a first look at Mac Gargan, the future Scorpion. See Tom Holland's Spider-Man.

  3. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

    Watts · Holland · about $1.13 billion

Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio weaponizes illusions and drones, and its mid-credits scene reveals Peter's identity to the world.

  4. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

    Watts · Holland · about $1.92 billion

A spell goes wrong and villains from the earlier films cross over: Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman and the Lizard, followed by the two earlier Spider-Men. Peter ends the film forgotten by everyone he knows.

  5. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton · Holland · about $2.51 billion

Released July 31, 2026, it became the third-highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, behind only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame, and the first film in seven years to pass $2.5 billion. Four years after No Way Home, a forgotten Peter works the streets alone against Scorpion, Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula and the Hand, with Jon Bernthal's Punisher and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk along the way.

    Spoiler

The hooded telepath behind the film's chaos is revealed to be Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink, who leaves New York for Westchester at the end, setting up the X-Men's arrival in the series.

The Spider-Verse (animated)

  1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman · Shameik Moore as Miles

Won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The Kingpin's collider pulls Spider-people from other worlds into Miles Morales's Brooklyn, with the Prowler, Olivia Octavius, Scorpion and Tombstone in his way. See Miles Morales (Spider-Verse films) and Peter B. Parker (Spider-Verse films).

  2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson · about $690 million

Sony Animation's highest-grossing film. The Spot grows from a joke into a threat to the multiverse, and Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Society turns on Miles. See Gwen Stacy (Spider-Verse films).

  3. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027)

Directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson · June 18, 2027

The conclusion of the animated trilogy. Studio dates can still move.

Sony's Spider-Man Universe

Sony also made six films about Spider-Man characters without Spider-Man: Venom (2018), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021, with Woody Harrelson as Carnage), Morbius (2022, Morbius), Madame Web (2024), Venom: The Last Dance (2024) and Kraven the Hunter (2024). The Venom films were hits; the other three were not. Kraven the Hunter, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is the only solo film so far about a member of the original Sinister Six, and it also features the Chameleon and the Rhino.

Which members of the Sinister Six have been on screen?

All six original members have now appeared in live action: Doctor Octopus (2004, 2021), Sandman (2007, 2021), Electro (2014, 2021), Vulture (2017), Mysterio (2019) and Kraven the Hunter (2024). They have never all appeared in the same film. No Way Home came closest with three of them. The full history of the team is in our Sinister Six guide.

Before 2002: TV and the films nobody saw

Spider-Man's screen life started on TV. The 1967 cartoon gave him a theme song that is still one of the most recognizable parts of the character. Nicholas Hammond played him in live action on CBS from 1977 to 1979, Japan's Toei studio made a 1978 series with a giant robot, and Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994–98) introduced a generation to the Sinister Six, Venom and Carnage. The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008–09) remains a critics' favorite. In 2025 Disney+ launched Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, whose second season arrives January 13, 2027. And in 2026, Nicolas Cage played a 1930s Spider-Man in the one-season live-action series Spider-Noir.
